My first watercolor painting happened in the summer of 1996, a timid pen and ink drawing of flowers, sparsely used watercolor paint that seemed to have a mind of its own. The friend who had encouraged me to give it a try took a photo:

My First Garden

It didn’t look like much but in the “making”, I discovered a whole new audience.

A person’s story brings nuance to her work. Mine was filled with music from the beginning and it is from music that inspiration continues to flow. I am drawn to explore the nature of relationship; my relationship with music is deep and wide … and 70 years young. It always feels contemporary because it is created in the moment. Incorporating images from my past as well as how I am influenced by current sounds, beats, harmonies and stories yet to be lived. The timelessness of paper - working it with my hands by tearing tiny bits to fit into an image, coloring it with modern day inks and metallics as well as hand made pastels and watercolor paints, incorporating ancient and timeless hand work like embroidery, tatting, beading, anything with exotic thread and yarn - I let the music lead me as I work within a subtle framework. Music … literally my greatest muse … lives in my heart and hands.
