My first watercolor painting happened in the summer of 1996, a timid pen and ink drawing of flowers, sparsely used watercolor paint that seemed to have a mind of its own. The friend, artist Lucy Boody, who had encouraged me to give it a try took a photo:

It didn’t look like much but in the “making”, I discovered a whole new audience.

A person’s story brings nuance to her work. Mine was filled with music from the beginning and it is from music that inspiration continues to flow. I am drawn to explore the nature of relationship. No matter what I’m making, it always feels contemporary because it is created in the moment. Incorporating images from my past as well as how I am influenced by current sounds, beats, harmonies and stories yet to be lived. The timelessness of paper - working it with my hands, tearing tiny bits to shape an image, shading it with modern day inks and metallics, hand-made pastels, acrylics and watercolor paints, incoporating ancient and timeless hand work like embroidery, tatting, beading, anything with exotic fibers - I let the music lead me as I create within a given framework. It is, to me, songwriting and poetry. Music … literally my greatest use … comes through my heart and hands.

Kittie is a master craftswoman and also works as an artist and fabricator in collaboration with other artists, interior designers and wardrobe stylists for television shows and celebrities such as Sia, Beyonce, Snoop Dogg, Doja Cat, and Adam Levine.
